Experiential and CBT Counseling for Teens, Teachers & More

I offer experiential therapy and CBT as the main services. These are designed to meet the needs of each individual and no one gets a cookie cutter approach. As someone with a long career in the classroom, my experience in education truly helps me understand what is going on in the life of an educator. My approach is personalized, compassionate, and rooted in a deep understanding of the challenges of the education sector.

Having taught 16 years of high school, I am uniquely qualified to sit with teens and discuss the issues that affect them most. From school stress, friendships, pressure at home, relationship challenges, effective communication and more.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. When we work together using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), my goal is to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected.

We’ll start by identifying any negative thought patterns that might be holding you back. Then, I’ll guide you through practical techniques to challenge and reframe those thoughts. You can also expect us to use tools like exposure therapy if you’re dealing with anxiety or fears—this will help you gradually face and reduce your triggers in a safe and controlled way.

Another technique we might use is behavioral activation, where we’ll focus on getting you involved in activities that boost your mood and energy levels. My aim is to give you the tools to feel more in control of your life and emotions, so you can make the changes you’re looking for.

Here's what I Do

Teens

  • Life Transitions: Navigating the complexities of growing up and transitioning to adulthood.
  • Career Exploration: Helping you discover your strengths and interests to plan for a fulfilling career. I can provide really helpful resources and connect you with amazing community services.
  • Relationship Dynamics: Supporting you in managing friendships, family relationships, and romantic relationships.
  • Managing Stress and Anxiety: Providing tools and techniques to cope with the pressures of school, social life, and future planning.
  • Family and School Stress: Managing life as a teen can be rough. Navigating the dynamics at home and school are two things a lot of teens seem to have in common.
  • Difficulty in Managing Other Mental Health Disorders: Many people get diagnosed with mental health disorders in their teen years. I am here to help give you skills, manage symptoms, and advocate for yourself.

Adults

  • Educator Advocacy: I’m the definition of “been there, done that” when it comes to education. Let’s work on these career challenges together.
  • Reducing Job Stress: Offering strategies to manage job-related stress and enhance job satisfaction.
  • Enhancing Career Enjoyment: Helping you find joy and fulfillment in your career or navigating a transition to a new career
  • Positive Self Regard and Self Identity Discovery:Sometimes as adults our career becomes our identity. When you meet someone new, what is the first thing you ask them? Is it, “what do you do for work?” Let’s change the narrative and discover all the other awesome things about you!
  • Self-Care: Empowering you to advocate for yourself and prioritize your well-being.
  • Late Appointments: Providing flexible scheduling with late appointments to accommodate your busy schedule.

What to expect
  • Free 15-Minute Consultation: I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to make sure we’re a good fit for each other.
  • Tailored Approach: Each session is tailored to your specific needs and goals, helping you say “I feel so much better” at the end.
  • Ongoing Support: I schedule 4-6 sessions in advance to deliver consistent support and help you stay on track. I find clients miss fewer sessions when they have a consistent schedule.
  • Balanced Results: The goal is to get you feeling good about life again, not to keep you coming back for life.
  • Late Appointments: Teachers and teens will get first priority for late appointments. I know how hard it is to miss school, especially on a regular basis.
What Are They Saying?

"If you’re a young adult go to Kristi! I always had a hard time with counselors either treating me like a child or the provider is simply out of touch."
